Dubai Tourist Visa 2026: What Changed, and What Does It Really Cost?
As of 23 October 2026, a single-entry 30-day Dubai tourist visa carries an official GDRFA fee of AED 200 plus 5% VAT (AED 210), while Emirates sells the same visa for $90 (about AED 331). Fees did not change in 2026. The real changes were a 25 June expansion of the 14-day and 60-day entry visa to six more nationalities, and a war-time overstay waiver that ended on 9 July.

The short answer: what changed for Dubai tourist visas in 2026?
Three things changed in 2026, and none of them is a fee increase. The UAE widened its 14-day and 60-day entry visa to six new nationalities (25 June), ran an overstay-fine waiver for visitors stranded by the February airspace closure (ended 9 July), and GDRFA Dubai pushed 48-hour approvals for single-entry tourist visas.
Search interest in “dubai tourist visa updates 2026” spiked in the UAE this month, and much of what circulates online mixes 2024 and 2025 rules with genuine 2026 news. We went back to the UAE’s own portals (u.ae, ICP and GDRFA Dubai), the airlines that sell visas, and Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) to separate what is actually new.
The headline for most travellers: if you hold a US, UK, Canadian, German or most EU passport, nothing changed. You still get a free 90-day multiple-entry visit visa on arrival. If you need a visa, the official government fee for 30 days is still AED 200 plus VAT. What you actually pay depends on who applies for you, and that gap is bigger than the official fee itself.
Every 2026 UAE visit visa change, with dates
We found six confirmed 2026 changes affecting visitors, from the 28 February fine waiver to the 25 June entry-visa expansion. Only one, the six-nationality expansion, permanently changes who can get a visa. Fees for standard tourist visas are the same as in 2025.
| Date | Change | Who it affects | Source |

| 25 Jun 2026 | 14-day (AED 100) and 60-day (AED 250) entry visa opened to Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Kenya and South Africa; Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Canada added as qualifying countries of residence | Those nationals living in the US, UK, EU or the six new countries | ICP announcement, 25 Jun |
Two other things people describe as “2026 rules” are older. The four new visit visa categories (AI specialists, entertainment, events, and cruise/leisure-boat tourism) and the income thresholds for sponsoring relatives (AED 4,000 for immediate family, AED 8,000 for second- or third-degree relatives, AED 15,000 for friends) were announced on 29 September 2025. The 14-day visa on arrival for Indians with US, UK or EU documents dates from 7 January 2024, widened in February 2025.

How much does a Dubai tourist visa cost in 2026?
Official fees run from AED 210 (30-day single entry, incl. VAT) to AED 525 (60-day multiple entry). Buying through Emirates costs $90 to $231, which works out 57% to 106% more than the government fee once converted at the fixed rate of AED 3.6725 per dollar.
Dubai tourist visas must be sponsored by a UAE tourism establishment, airline or hotel, so you rarely pay the bare government fee. The table below puts the official GDRFA fee next to the price Emirates publishes for the same visa. Agency prices vary; Emirates is shown because it publishes a fixed price list.

Is the 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa worth it?
For anyone visiting twice a year or more, yes: the non-refundable part costs about AED 713.50 via GDRFA, or roughly AED 143 a year over five years. You must show a USD 4,000 bank balance over the last six months, UAE-valid health insurance and an onward ticket, and you can stay 90 days per visit.
The 5-year visa is self-sponsored and open to all nationalities, according to the UAE government portal (updated 1 October 2026). Each stay can last 90 days and can be extended once by another 90 days. The upfront payment looks large because it includes a refundable guarantee of AED 3,000 (GDRFA) or AED 3,025 (ICP).
- GDRFA fee breakdown AED 100 application, AED 500 issuance, AED 3,000 guarantee, AED 21 warranty fee, AED 20 guarantee collection fee, AED 10 Knowledge Dirham, AED 10 Innovation Dirham, AED 52.50 service fee.
- KalQLater calculation AED 3,713.50 − AED 3,000 deposit = AED 713.50 non-refundable, or AED 142.70 per year. Two 30-day single-entry visas a year at the official rate cost AED 420.
- Refunds Rejected applicants get issuance fees, health insurance fees and deposits back; refunds go to the original card within 180 days. The deposit is forfeited if you break entry or stay rules.
Who gets a Dubai visa on arrival, and who must apply in advance?
Citizens of 13 countries get a free 30-day visa on arrival and around 70 more, including the US, UK, Canada and Germany, get a free 90-day multiple-entry visa. GCC citizens need no visa. Indians and six other nationalities qualify for a paid 14-day or 60-day entry visa only if they hold certain foreign visas or residence permits.
| Group | Examples | What you get | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| GCC citizens | Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain | No visa needed | Free |
| 30-day visa on arrival (13 countries) | Ireland, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Mauritius | 30-day visit visa | Free |
| 90-day visa on arrival | US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Japan, China, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Brazil | Multiple entry, 90 days | Free |
| India + 6 new nationalities with qualifying documents | India; since 25 June 2026 also Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Kenya, South Africa | 14-day (extendable once) or 60-day single entry | AED 100 / AED 250 |
| Everyone else | e.g. Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh | Pre-arranged tourist visa via airline, hotel or agency | From AED 210 official |
The 30-day and 90-day lists come from flydubai’s UAE visa page, which matches a Khaleej Times list published on 27 June 2026. UK citizens are in the 90-day group, not the 30-day group as many older guides still say.
How many tourists visit Dubai? 2019 to 2026
Dubai hit a record 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025, then fell to 6.97 million in January–August 2026, 44% below the same months of 2025. August 2026, with about 869,000 visitors, was the strongest month since February.

The 2026 slump followed the strikes that began on 28 February. Flights were grounded, Emirates suspended Dubai services until at least 7 March, and hotel occupancy fell to 36% in March from 86% in January. Occupancy recovered to 66% in August, which DET says is 89% of August 2025’s level. Dubai’s government put an AED 2.5 billion support package behind tourism and hospitality, and Emirates has restored 97% of its network.
Where do Dubai’s tourists come from?
Western Europe is Dubai’s biggest source region: 4.10 million visitors (21%) in 2025 and 20% in January–August 2026. South Asia, mostly India, rose from 15% of visitors in 2025 to 17% in 2026, which matters because it is the region most affected by the visa-on-arrival rules.

For January–August 2026, DET gave shares only: Western Europe 20%, South Asia 17%, GCC 16%, CIS and Eastern Europe 14%. Applying those shares to the 6.97 million total gives KalQLater estimates of about 1.39 million from Western Europe, 1.18 million from South Asia, 1.12 million from the GCC and 0.98 million from CIS and Eastern Europe.
Those estimates suggest every region fell sharply in absolute terms, but South Asia and the GCC, which are closer and fly shorter routes, held their share better than long-haul markets. If you are an Indian traveller comparing Dubai with other short-haul options, see our analysis of whether Vietnam is really becoming more popular with Indian travellers.
What documents do you need for a Dubai tourist visa?
The official GDRFA list is short: a photo, a passport valid for at least six months, an onward or return ticket and UAE-valid medical insurance. Some nationalities (Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan) also need a national ID card. Airlines and agents often ask for more, such as a hotel booking.
- Passport Valid for at least six months from entry (u.ae; GDRFA). Emirates also requires it to be machine-readable.
- Onward ticket Required by GDRFA. Emirates requires a return Emirates ticket on the same booking, with dates matching your hotel.
- Health insurance Required by GDRFA for tourist visas and for the 5-year visa (valid 180 days).
- Hotel booking or tenancy contract Required by Emirates for visas it sponsors; recommended by agents since late 2024. Not on the GDRFA list.
- Proof of funds Officially required only for the 5-year visa: USD 4,000 bank balance over six months. Agent figures of AED 3,000 or AED 5,000 are not in any official rule we found.
How to apply for a Dubai tourist visa, step by step
Check whether you need a visa at all, then apply through your airline, a licensed UAE agency or hotel, or GDRFA/ICP online. GDRFA’s expected processing time is 48 hours; Emirates asks for at least four working days before arrival. UAE embassies do not issue tourist visas.
- 1Check your passport group
Use the table above or flydubai/Emirates visa pages. If you are in the 30-day or 90-day group, you do not apply: the visa is stamped free on arrival.
- 2Pick a sponsor
Options listed on u.ae: ICP or GDRFA online, Emirates, flydubai or Etihad (you must fly with them), or a licensed UAE travel agent or hotel (you must book through them and keep the reservation).
- 3Gather documents
Passport scan (six months’ validity), photo meeting the specs, return ticket, health insurance, hotel booking if the sponsor asks. Make ticket and hotel dates match.
- 4Apply and pay
GDRFA’s portal and smart app run 24/7 and accept UAE Pass or a username. Expect around 48 hours; Emirates says allow four international working days.
- 5Fly and keep your copies
Carry your visa, return ticket and accommodation proof. Airline staff at departure have refused boarding to visitors without them (Khaleej Times, May 2024).
- 6Leave on time
The overstay fine is AED 50 per day. A 10-day overstay costs AED 500, more than double the official 30-day visa fee.
Does the new US visa social media rule affect Dubai travellers?
Only a small group, and it has nothing to do with Dubai tourist visas. From 1 October 2026, US applicants for I (media), TN and TD visas must set their social media profiles to public. It is a US State Department rule that applies to UAE-based applicants in those categories, not to anyone visiting the UAE.
Gulf News reported the change in September 2026 under a headline aimed at UAE travellers, which helped it trend alongside UAE visa searches. The notice was dated 18 September. It adds three categories to existing US online-presence screening of students, temporary workers and exchange visitors. US tourist (B) visas are not among the newly added categories.

Dubai visa headlines vs evidence
“Dubai tourist visa fees went up in 2026”
GDRFA still lists AED 200 (30-day) and AED 300 (60-day) plus VAT for single entry. No 2026 fee increase was announced by ICP or GDRFA.
False“Indians with a US visa now get UAE visa on arrival”
Indians with a valid US visa, green card, UK/EU visa or residence, or residence in six other countries qualify for a 14-day entry visa. This dates from January 2024, not 2026.
Partly true“You must show AED 3,000 or AED 5,000 to enter Dubai”
These figures came from travel agents and airport staff in 2024. The only official funds rule we found is USD 4,000 in bank balance for the 5-year visa.
Misleading“The new US social media rule affects UAE visa applicants”
It is a US rule for I, TN and TD visa applicants from 1 October 2026. It does not touch UAE visit visas.
Misleading“Overstay fines are waived for tourists in 2026”
ICP waived fines from 28 February for those stranded by the airspace closure, but the final grace period ended on 9 July 2026. Normal AED 50/day fines apply.
False“A GCC-wide tourist visa is available now”
As of 9 September 2026 there was no launch date, fee or portal.

How we built this analysis
- Official fees are taken from GDRFA Dubai service pages for single-entry and multiple-entry tourist visas and the 5-year visa, checked on 23 October 2026. VAT of 5% is added as stated on those pages.
- Airline prices are Emirates’ published USD prices (incl. VAT). We converted them at the dirham’s fixed peg of AED 3.6725 per USD. Premium = (USD price × 3.6725) ÷ official fee incl. VAT − 1. Example: $90 × 3.6725 = AED 330.5; 330.5 ÷ 210 − 1 = 57%.
- 5-year visa net cost = GDRFA total AED 3,713.50 − refundable AED 3,000 guarantee = AED 713.50; ÷ 5 years = AED 142.70 a year.
- Visitor decline = (12.54m − 6.97m) ÷ 12.54m = 44.4%. 2026 regional estimates = DET share × 6.97m (e.g. 20% × 6.97m = 1.39m). These estimates are ours, not DET’s.
- Each 2026 change was dated using the ICP or GDRFA announcement where available, and Khaleej Times, Gulf News or The National where the official page was not accessible. Claims that appeared only on visa-agency blogs were not treated as confirmed.
Limitations
Visa fees and eligibility lists change without notice; everything here is as of 23 October 2026. Agency prices vary widely and we show only Emirates’ published list. The 96-hour transit fee differs between sources (AED 50 vs AED 100). Annual visitor figures for 2019–2024 are DET totals as compiled by Wikipedia because DET report pages did not render their numbers; 2025 and 2026 figures come from DET releases. DET had not published January–September 2026 data by our cut-off. This article is general information, not legal or immigration advice: confirm with ICP, GDRFA or your airline before travel.
